Tech House,
Progressive, Deep or Funky House.
|
Michael has been
into dance music from a
very early age. Early interests
were hardcore and rave as a result of listening to acts such as the
Prodigy and KLF.
He bought his first deck set up at the age of 15,
and was instantly hooked.
Over the years Michael has tailored his musical
interests towards House Music, especially Tech House, Progressive
House and Deep or Funky House, with DJ influences including Sasha, John
Digweed, Danny Howells and Laurent Garnier.
Although he greatly admires
the contribution these people have made to shaping house music as it is
today, Michael does try to have his own style.
By the age of 18 Michael was Dj’ing regularly in Liverpool,
his home
town. He was a monthly resident at the hugely popular Alderaan night
which attracted some top quality guests over the years.
He was also the
resident DJ for Liverpool University’s club nights, which saw
him on the bill alongside acts as diverse as The Freestylers, John
Kelly,
Godskitchen DJ’s and Danny Howells and Alison Marks!
Alderaan
sadly disbanded around 2002 but Michael had spent 3 years
Dj’ing
regularly there and had become quite a name on the underground
Liverpool scene.
Over the past 4 years, Michael has had regular gigs at Moles in Bath,
(Bath’s No.1 night club), again forging a reputation for
tight sets of quality music. He would class his music style as forward
thinking house music across the board.
Michael is just as comfortable doing a
warm-up set as playing the final 2 hours. In fact, his sets at Bath see
him DJ’ing all night from 10pm til 4am. He is more of a
traditional DJ,
as well in that he still uses 3 CDJs an FX unit and a mixer.
Michael
appreciates the inception of new software such as Ableton and Traktor
but for him these programmes take away the real feel of live mixing. He
is very well respected by his peers due to his technical ability and
music selection, but he is looking for a break to raise his profile
somewhat.
Michael is very confident in his ability, and while he knows that he can
get any crowd
dancing, which is the best buzz he's ever had, at the same time he also
keeps his feet firmly on the ground
In terms of producing Michael has most recently produced under the
guise of
Mogul and has had 2 releases over the past few years - one of which on
IO music and the other on Proton.
Both of these labels are very
respectable and both tracks can still be located on Beatport.
Michael has
recently started producing with a friend and hopes to start finishing
off some new productions in the not too distant future
Michael continues to work hard on new mixes and listening to as much
new house
music as he can so that he keeps up with the latest trends.
For now though
enjoy this mix and he hopes to hear from you in the near future
